The Old Guinea
Project
Brand Identity
Oracle Creative was commissioned to rebrand The Old Guinea, a historic restaurant and bar dating back to 1826, located in Ridge between Shenley and Potters Bar in rural Hertfordshire.
Brief
The venue needed a contemporary brand identity that honoured its heritage whilst positioning it as a destination for genuine Italian cuisine. The challenge was to create a visual system that could communicate the unique combination of traditional character, breathtaking countryside views, and authentic Italian dining.
Creative Approach
We developed a brand identity that balanced the building’s 200-year history with its modern Italian restaurant concept. The circular logo device provided a versatile mark that could work across traditional pub signage and contemporary digital applications. The visual language needed to convey warmth and authenticity whilst showcasing the venue’s spectacular rural setting and quality Italian offering, from wood-fired pizzas to al forno dishes. The circular shape is based on an old guinea coin, and of course signifies a pizza!

Our scope included:
- Complete brand identity development
- Primary logo and circular badge variations
- Exterior Signage
- Menus, colour palette and typography system
- Brand application across print and digital touchpoints
- Web design & development

Outcome
The flexible identity system works across all touchpoints from traditional signage to digital menus, establishing The Old Guinea as a unique dining destination. The circular logo device proved particularly effective for the heritage pub environment whilst maintaining impact across modern applications, helping position the restaurant as a destination for Italian cuisine in its historic rural Hertfordshire setting.
